DOUBLE MINDED. DOUBLE HEART. SPLIT MIND. BEING LIKE A WAVE
DIVIDED MIND

(One of the most thought provoking messages you may ever hear)

HOW EASY IT IS FOR SATAN TO TRAP A CHRISTIAN INTO DIVIDING THEIR THOUGHTS AND CAUSING DIVERSIONS.

What is a double mind? It is a mind that is centered on Christ and something else. The mind goes back and forth. Decisions made with a double mind or double heart are often bad decisions.

We are in the worst Bible-teaching generation in the history of the world-Rev 3:14-22. Some of the teaching is centered on what Jesus did to save you and His overwhelming love for you. However, very little teaching is centered on what you must do to be saved other than simply believe and say a prayer. The subjects of both repentance and water baptism by immersion are rarely mentioned. The subjects of life is a test; growing in faith; obedience to God's Word; faithfully reading your Bible; following Jesus; denying self and double-mindedness are even more rare.

Denominational theology often replaces God's Word in this lukewarm church age. If a person is a Baptist they believe the Bible teaches certain things. If a person is from a Pentecostal background, they believe the same Bible teaches some subjects differently. Denominations, in some cases, actually bend certain scriptures to fit what they believe, rather than changing their beliefs to what the Bible actually teaches. It is an example of the power of Satan to deceive many born again Christians so completely that they are unaware of this and are unable to break free. Example, many Christians are positive they will be raptured. Yet the Bible clearly teaches that many of these will not be raptured.

Regarding double-mindedness, consider a mother or father. They have children. Now their life is often centered around their children. Yet the Bible clearly states that Jesus to be the center of a Christian's life. This would include being in God's Word faithfully. So many parents compromise their walk with Jesus. They think they put Jesus first, but, in reality, their children come first. Anyone that puts their Creator second, and something else first, is not worthy of Jesus. They can expect to be left behind. But are they preparing to be left behind? No. Satan has convinced them in their thoughts they will be raptured. Again, consider carefully, the Bible clearly teaches most that believe they are saved and will be raptured—will not be found worthy.

It is a rare Christian, indeed, that Satan has not been able to deceive at least in some way, from the best theologians to the new babes in Christ. This includes the most famous evangelists and preachers on television and radio to those in the smallest churches. This is not the age of no compromise Christianity, yet the Bible teaches we are to pick up our cross and follow Jesus (His Word) every day.

Before getting to the list of double-mindedness, consider the following carefully with regards to yourself, if you believe you are saved.

1 Cor 7:23-YE ARE BOUGHT WITH A PRICE; BE NOT YE THE SERVANTS OF MEN. 1 Cor 6:20-FOR YE ARE BOUGHT WITH A PRICE: THEREFORE GLORIFY GOD IN YOUR BODY, AND IN YOUR SPIRIT, WHICH ARE GOD'S. Did you catch that? You belong to God. You no longer belong to yourself.

When you go to a store and buy something, it then becomes your possession. Whatever you wish to do with it, you may do—it belongs to you.

If you say yes to Jesus, you become the bought and paid for possession of Jesus Christ. The price He paid to make you His possession was His bloody, sacrificial death at Calvary. Your first responsibility is to get to know and understand the One that purchased you. This means you are to hear and read the words of the One that redeemed you. Few people do this. He has your life all planned out, which means your desires are to be crucified, and your will is to be whatever His will is for you. You are born again, renewed, converted, changed. Thus you are to deny yourself and follow Jesus Christ. Few will do this. Those few that do, will forever be with Jesus. Those many that resist doing God's will, will find themselves in the lake of fire—eternally separated from God. They were bought by the blood of the Lamb, but they refused to follow and obey Him. If you receive the forgiveness of your sins through the shed blood of Jesus Christ, but then afterward rebel against following and obeying Him—your eternal punishment will be far worse than if you had not said yes to Christ.

This is one reason why multitudes of people that believed they would be raptured—will be rejected. Will you be among them?

Isa 26:3-THOU WILT KEEP HIM IN PERFECT PEACE, WHOSE MIND IS
STAYED ON THEE:
BECAUSE HE TRUSTETH IN THEE.

A double mind may not have peace. A double mind goes back and forth between two or more things. Often a double mind is a troubled mind. Perfect peace comes from faith that does not go back and forth. Peace comes from a mind that is STAYED ON JESUS and His Word. Note the words mind STAYED "on thee." A double heart is mentioned in 1 Cor 12:33, Ps 12:2.

This can often be very difficult as persecutions, threats, sickness, family problems, financial difficulties, the cares of this life, the deceitfulness of riches, the lusts of all sorts of things, the pleasures of this life, and the desire to buy, etc., come upon us and choke God's Word. Life is a test that can be summarized in three words. JESUS is the first word, FAITHFULNESS (which includes obedience) is another, and LOVE is the third. Through faith, as we grow through being in God's Word (not a little), and our heart is steadfastly centered in God's Word, we should be able to stand firm; however, Satan is a master at making you think the grass is greener on the other side of the fence.

Also note the words from Isa 26:3-BECAUSE HE "TRUSTETH IN THEE." Trust is a result of faith. Faith is a result of being in God's Word not a little, plus being a doer of God's Word.

There is no faith, weak faith, wavering faith, strong in faith and others. Being strong in faith cannot be attained by hope. A person needs to be in God's Word faithfully like they eat food faithfully. The Bible is faith food. The Bible brings forth salvation and eternal life. Worldly food does not. How is it the Bible indicates that God's Word is more necessary than our necessary food?-Job 23:12. As already indicated, we find time to eat, perhaps 3 or more meals a day, why then can't we do the same with God's Word? Is it that we do not esteem God's Word as important as worldly food?

Perhaps, you have to use the bathroom. Pull out your pocket Bible and read a bit. Do you have time to take a break? Why not listen or read more of the Bible? You get up in the morning and are dressing. Why not listen to the Bible on CD or MP3? Why not fill your mind with God's Word, rather than the troubles of the day? But do not just hear or read the Word, do what it says. Allowing distractions when you read God's Word does not produce strong faith. One needs to be single-minded.

Regarding the wicked, the unstable, the double-minded, may we say, Ps 10:4-GOD IS NOT IN ALL HIS THOUGHTS. The double-minded is like a wave. It is written: Ja1:6- FOR HE THAT WAVERETH IS LIKE A WAVE OF THE SEA DRIVEN WITH THE WIND AND TOSSED. Note the words driven, wind, and tossed. Let us consider these three words separately.

The person whose faith is DRIVEN, we may compare to a boat with no motor (the motor being Jesus). It is driven by the waves of the sea. The waves are constantly changing. It is tossed up and down and even spun around. With no motor, it has no means of direction. Such a person believes this one moment, and something else tomorrow. He hears this preaching and is persuaded, then hears other preaching and changes direction. His foundation is not God's Word. It may be God's Word, plus what this preacher says, or another preacher says.

Another person is likened to someone walking down the street. He has no map (the map being God's Word or Jesus). He is driven with the WIND. As the wind blows, so he goes. As the wind changes, so is he driven. Likewise, as he may read a few verses here, and another few verses there. He is very unstable. He may try this Bible reading program, and then another. He may try this church, and then another. Perhaps he goes to a church that does not teach in line with good, sound doctrine. Ten years goes by, and he is still a baby Christian going no where.

Another person may be compared with a leaf. The leaf has fallen off a tree (the tree being Jesus). It drifts downward. It is TOSSED to the left, then to the right. It gets run over by something and is tossed yet again. A person reads this book, and another book. He just can't bring himself to read "ONLY" God's Word in this confused, likewarm, blind, Laodicean Bible generation.

The Bible speaks of Ps 12:2-with a double heart do they speak. A double heart is also in 1 Chr 12:33. One needs to purify their heart through faith, repentance, and love. Ja 1:8-A DOUBLE MINDED MAN IS UNSTABLE IN ALL HIS WAYS. Regarding purifying your heart, it is written:
1-Ja 4:7-9-SUBMIT YOURSELVES THEREFORE TO GOD.
2-RESIST THE DEVIL, AND HE WILL FLEE FROM YOU.
3-DRAW NIGH TO GOD, AND HE WILL DRAW NIGH TO YOU.
     4-CLEANSE YOUR HANDS, YE SINNERS (or repent);
5-AND PURIFY YOUR HEARTS, YE DOUBLE MINDED.
6-BE AFFLICTED, AND MOURN, AND WEEP:
7-LET YOUR LAUGHTER BE TURNED TO MOURNING,
     8-AND YOUR JOY TO HEAVINESS.

What is "one way" double-mindedness, and where does it come from? You have hidden God's Word in your heart. But then the devil puts lying thoughts in your mind. However we think these are "our" thoughts, because it is something our heart agrees with, so we do not resist the devil as we ought.

Eve knew that God had commanded: THOU SHALT NOT EAT OF THE TREE OF THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOOD AND EVIL FOR IN THE DAY THAT THOU EATEST THEREOF THOU SHALT SURELY DIE-ref Gen 2:17. The serpent (the devil) tempted Eve to eat of the tree. Now she had a double mind, and emotions replaced obedience. The clash is between God's Word and the word of the devil and her emotions. With 47 words, the devil persuaded her that God was wrong.

Ja 4:7-9-It is written: Submit yourselves therefore to God (or, we may say, God's Word). Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Eve did not do this. She mistakenly continued to listen to the words of the devil and was finally persuaded to sin. But then she did something else horribly wrong. Undoubtedly, with Satan tempting her—she then tempted Adam, and he also sinned. All humanity now has a sinful, self-centered, "me, myself, and I" nature. All humanity needs a savior, and the only Savior is Jesus Christ, Who paid the penalty for our sins. However, if you will not receive that forgiveness, "AND FOLLOW HIM" (which is seldom taught), you are without hope. Many "accept" Jesus and say a prayer. They do not "receive" Him. The KJV says nothing about "accepting" Jesus, did you know that?

The Bible talks of being like a wave. It goes in and out. This is double-mindedness. It is written: Ja 1:5-8-IF ANY OF YOU LACK WISDOM, LET HIM ASK OF GOD, THAT GIVETH TO ALL MEN LIBERALLY, AND UPBRAIDETH NOT; AND IT SHALL BE GIVEN HIM. BUT LET HIM ASK IN FAITH, NOTHING WAVERING. FOR HE THAT WAVERETH IS LIKE A WAVE OF THE SEA DRIVEN WITH THE WIND AND TOSSED. FOR LET NOT THAT MAN THINK THAT HE SHALL RECEIVE ANY THING OF THE LORD. A DOUBLE MINDED MAN IS UNSTABLE IN ALL HIS WAYS.

Ja 4:7-10-SUBMIT YOURSELVES THEREFORE TO GOD. RESIST THE DEVIL, AND HE WILL FLEE FROM YOU. DRAW NIGH TO GOD, AND HE WILL DRAW NIGH TO YOU. CLEANSE YOUR HANDS, YE SINNERS; AND PURIFY YOUR HEARTS, YE DOUBLE MINDED. BE AFFLICTED, AND MOURN, AND WEEP: LET YOUR LAUGHTER BE TURNED TO MOURNING, AND YOUR JOY TO HEAVINESS. HUMBLE YOURSELVES IN THE SIGHT OF THE LORD, AND HE SHALL LIFT YOU UP.

Deut 28:62. (Double-mindedness is a tool Satan uses to cause people to disobey God.) AND YE SHALL BE LEFT FEW IN NUMBER, WHEREAS YE WERE AS THE STARS OF HEAVEN FOR MULTITUDE; BECAUSE THOU WOULDEST NOT OBEY THE VOICE OF THE LORD THY GOD.

1 Chr 28:9-AND THOU, SOLOMON MY SON, KNOW THOU THE GOD OF THY FATHER, AND SERVE HIM WITH A PERFECT HEART AND WITH A WILLING MIND: FOR THE LORD SEARCHETH ALL HEARTS, AND UNDERSTANDETH ALL THE IMAGINATIONS (OF THE THOUGHTS): IF THOU SEEK HIM, HE WILL BE FOUND OF THEE; BUT IF THOU FORSAKE HIM, HE WILL CAST THEE OFF FOR EVER. Even Solomon who wrote some of the Bible did, indeed, turn after many years. Never, never underestimate your enemy the devil. For, indeed, he seeks to devour you.

Pv 29:11-A FOOL UTTERETH "ALL HIS" MIND: BUT A WISE MAN KEEPETH IT IN TILL AFTERWARDS. Are you a talking machine that has to utter everything that comes into your thoughts? In some cases, this comes from a person that has felt rejected in their childhood in some way. Talking a lot and having a person listen to them helps overcome their feeling of rejection for a short time, but then they have to do it again, and again, and again. After many years, they become desensitized to the fact they they talk more than anyone else around them. They don't realize they sometimes dominate the conversation. Such is sin. As it is written: Ja 1:19-WHEREFORE, MY BELOVED "BRETHREN," LET "EVERY MAN" BE…SLOW TO SPEAK… Yet do they confess it as sin and stop doing it?—doubtful. Jesus should, by faith, heal that rejection frame of mind.

Who prompts people to talk on and on and on? If it is not God, then it is Satan and a person's own emotions. The double heart is mentioned in relation to speaking vanity and using flattering lips. It is written, Phil 4:5-LET YOUR MODERATION BE KNOWN UNTO ALL MEN. THE LORD IS AT HAND.

Then there are certain people that have the gift of TEACHING that are called to teach the Word of God. These also can have a problem with talking too much about things that are irrelevant. However, I would suppose that some of them do confess it as sin afterwards. Satan can use most anything to bring a person low.

Beware that Satan does not lay some unrepentant desire of your heart in front of you that will cause you to be double minded. He may even disguise it as something to use for Jesus. This could be music, some sport, going certain places, doing certain things, buying certain things. If these things occupy your mind along with Jesus—beware. Many have become double minded in this way, and then fell, as they left the calling and will of the Lord.

The less you possess, the less Satan can use to tempt you. Jesus, our example, owned nothing other than His clothes. Neither did the apostles. Do you hoard certain things that are not for use in serving Jesus? Maybe it is a closet packed beyond reason with clothes, perhaps it is some sort of hobby, collecting something; but it is so important to you that you are doubleminded. God's Word tells us to sell, not buy. Why? so nothing of this world can own us, and we become double minded. Here is an experiment. Whatever it is that you have that is not in moderation, but is excessive—if Jesus told you to get rid of it—would this greatly offend you and cause you to be angry? If it would, then something is wrong. For it is not written, Lk 14:33-WHOSOEVER HE BE OF YOU THAT FORSAKETH NOT ALL THAT HE HATH, HE CANNOT BE MY DISCIPLE.

It is amazing how we can justify that having so much of a certain thing is the will of God. Does this offend you? God forbid that you should love something so much that you could become angry at the thought of forsaking it or even part of it. Beware of double mindedness. Do most people want to draw closer to Jesus, if they have to give up the things or possessions of this world? No. Most want to compromise. That is called lukewarm. God wants you to reach perfection. Are you even trying to do so?

Some women may have more shoes and clothes than a department store. Some may have some sort of collectibles or something else that means a great deal to them. Would they give them up for Christ? They may say no way. Are they ready to meet Christ? No. Can a person that is not ready to surrender all for Christ have a good conscience toward God? No.

Some men may have more sporting equipment than the local sports store. They might own some ultra fancy and expensive car, or even 5 or 6 cars. If a person even gets near their shiny paint job, they may blow their stack. Men may have some other possessions that they would not part with, no matter what, not even for Christ. Are they ready to meet Christ? No.

We live in a world of things and possessions, pleasures and comforts the likes of which this world has never seen. It is a world that has little time for Christ or Bible reading. Some new handheld device or game hits the marketplace, and multitudes line up to get one. When the soon coming Rapture occurs, will many be taken? Absolutely, not. Only a very few are really ready to meet Jesus.

What do you own that is so important to you that it is hindering you from drawing closer to Jesus because forsaking everying is not on your menu. Are there certain things of this world that you love. What possession would you struggle in giving up if Jesus said to you personally FORSAKE ALL? Are you double minded? Do you bend God's word to fit your personal desires? Do you justify sin? Is nearly everyone that claims Christ double minded including you?

Do you have a single eye? Are you double minded, and do not know it? Have you not read?: 1 Jn 2:15-LOVE NOT THE WORLD, NEITHER THE "THINGS THAT ARE IN THE WORLD." IF ANY MAN LOVE THE WORLD, THE LOVE OF THE FATHER IS NOT IN HIM. Are you ready to meet Jesus? Few are.

DO YOU HAVE A SINGLE EYE OR A DOUBLE EYE?

Lk 11:34-36-THE LIGHT OF THE BODY IS THE EYE: THEREFORE WHEN THINE EYE IS SINGLE, THY WHOLE BODY ALSO IS FULL OF LIGHT; BUT WHEN THINE EYE IS EVIL, THY BODY ALSO IS FULL OF DARKNESS. TAKE HEED THEREFORE THAT THE LIGHT WHICH IS IN THEE BE NOT DARKNESS. IF THY WHOLE BODY THEREFORE BE FULL OF LIGHT, HAVING NO PART DARK, THE WHOLE SHALL BE FULL OF LIGHT, AS WHEN THE BRIGHT SHINING OF A CANDLE DOTH GIVE THEE LIGHT.

HERE IS A GOOD QUESTION TO TEST YOURSELF WITH.

When you are all alone, no one around, perhaps tired and in bed—what does your mind think about? Is it about some sport, some soap opera, your work, something you need to do, some possession you own, your car, the house you live in, problems you have to deal with, bills you have to pay, your children, your spouse, or something else; or is it JESUS and the WORD OF GOD, and how to become more like HIM?

This is strictly speculation: in this generation that will see Jesus return, out of a thousand people, you might find one—WHOSE MIND IS STAYED ON JESUS-Isa 26:3.

It is written, 2 Cor 13:5,6,8-11-EXAMINE YOURSELVES, WHETHER YE BE IN THE FAITH; PROVE (or test) YOUR OWN SELVES. KNOW YE NOT YOUR OWN SELVES, HOW THAT JESUS CHRIST IS IN YOU, EXCEPT YE BE REPROBATES? BUT I TRUST THAT YE SHALL KNOW THAT WE ARE NOT REPROBATES. FOR WE CAN DO NOTHING AGAINST THE TRUTH, BUT FOR THE TRUTH. …AND THIS ALSO WE WISH, EVEN YOUR PERFECTION. THEREFORE I WRITE THESE THINGS BEING ABSENT, LEST BEING PRESENT I SHOULD USE SHARPNESS, ACCORDING TO THE POWER WHICH THE LORD HATH GIVEN ME TO EDIFICATION, AND NOT TO DESTRUCTION. FINALLY, BRETHREN, FAREWELL. BE PERFECT, BE OF GOOD COMFORT, BE OF ONE MIND, LIVE IN PEACE; AND THE GOD OF LOVE AND PEACE SHALL BE WITH YOU.

Is your love split between Jesus and certain possessions or things? The answer, in many cases, for many people is YES. Trying to deny it and justify yourself is for people that cannot honestly examine themselves by God's Word because certain possessions they desire blind their eyes.

Let it not be forgotten—Christians are to DENY THEMSELVES AND PICK UP THEIR CROSS DAILY AND FOLLOW JESUS.

They are not called to follow or go after the world, or the things that are in the world. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

So what does Satan do? He makes you think that your personal desires are in line with God's Word. He does this in your mind and emotions by doing all possible to keep you out of God's Word, and by twisting and bending God's Word in your thoughts, or by putting in your thoughts that this or that verse does not really mean what it says—because… So Eve ate of the fruit, and so did her husband, and they perished.
Satan bends Scripture in your mind to make you think you are following Christ, when you are actually following your own personal desires.

Acts 20:24-But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.
