INTRODUCTION
1685-5A-1

BLESSED IS HE THAT READETH, AND THEY THAT HEAR THE WORDS OF THIS PROPHECY, AND KEEP THOSE THINGS WHICH ARE WRITTEN THEREIN: FOR THE TIME IS AT HAND-Rev 1:3.

The word "revelation," in the Webster’s Dictionary, means "act of revealing; divine communication." It can also mean "to disclose or unveil; appearing, coming, lighten, and manifestation." It conveys the meaning of something being covered or hidden, but then the veil is taken away, and it can clearly be seen.

The word "revelation" is used in the Bible ten times; "revelations" is used twice. This is the only book in the Bible that has a promised blessing to go with it-ref Rev 1:3.

The "Revelation" is the REVELATION OF JESUS CHRIST-Rev 1:1. It is not of John as some Bible versions portray.

The Revelation is for a special group of people. It is written, THE REVELATION…WHICH GOD GAVE UNTO HIM, TO SHOW UNTO HIS SERVANTS-Rev 1:1. It is further written, JOHN TO THE SEVEN CHURCHES-Rev 1:4. BLESSED IS HE THAT READETH, AND…HEAR…AND KEEP THOSE THINGS WHICH ARE WRITTEN THEREIN-Rev 1:3. This select group, for whom the Revelation is written, are those that are converted, childlike, born-again servants of God, who will obey God’s Word. It is for those that have discernment through the Spirit of God. It is not for those in whom is no faith or the carnal Christian whose faith is unstable as a wave.

Many shy away from the Revelation. They think it is too difficult to understand. To the "make-believe Christian" and to the unbeliever, the Revelation may seem like a group of strange, confusing, frightening, and unbelievable events. They read the Revelation without understanding what they are reading, or they may ascribe meanings to what they are reading that are very unbiblical. Thus, their understanding is confusion, even though they often think that they do understand. The Scriptures explain this, as it is written, UNTO YOU IT IS GIVEN TO KNOW THE MYSTERIES OF THE KINGDOM OF GOD: BUT TO OTHERS IN PARABLES; THAT SEEING THEY MIGHT NOT SEE, AND HEARING THEY MIGHT NOT UNDERSTAND-Lk 8:10. (Also note part 3A, "Who Can Know" and "Who Cannot Know.") Nevertheless, Daniel says, BUT THE WICKED WILL CONTINUE TO BE WICKED. NONE OF THE WICKED WILL UNDERSTAND, BUT THOSE WHO ARE WISE WILL UNDERSTAND-Dan 12:10 NIV. 1 Cor 2:14-BUT THE NATURAL MAN (or man without the Spirit) RECEIVETH NOT (or does not accept) THE THINGS OF THE SPIRIT OF GOD: FOR THEY ARE FOOLISHNESS UNTO HIM: NEITHER CAN HE KNOW (or understand) THEM, BECAUSE THEY ARE SPIRITUALLY DISCERNED.

Some of the Revelation explains itself, while other portions are explained in Daniel, Isaiah, or other parts of the Bible.

Jesus Himself says that the Revelation is to be taught in the churches. It is written, I JESUS HAVE SENT MINE ANGEL TO TESTIFY UNTO YOU THESE THINGS IN THE CHURCHES-Rev 22:16. This is further substantiated in the introduction, as it is written, JOHN, TO THE SEVEN CHURCHES-Rev 1:4. The Revelation was given to be taught in the churches, from the time it was first delivered even until now.

The Revelation in itself gives a beautiful portrayal of the future. However, when coupled or assisted with parts of Daniel, Mt 24, Mk 13, and Lk 21, the picture becomes much more complete. When Ezekiel and Isaiah are added in, even more is revealed. When all the verses pertaining to end time prophecy are included, there unfolds a panorama that displays the magnificence of God’s incredible plan, from the creation of the heavens and earth, to the new heaven and earth and New Jerusalem that will one day come forth.

One might ask the question, "How should I study?"

It is written, IF ANY OF YOU LACK WISDOM, LET HIM ASK OF GOD, THAT GIVETH TO ALL MEN LIBERALLY (or generously), AND UPBRAIDETH NOT (or without finding fault); AND IT SHALL BE GIVEN HIM. BUT LET HIM ASK IN FAITH, NOTHING WAVERING (or he must believe and not doubt-NIV). FOR HE THAT WAVERETH (or doubts) IS LIKE A WAVE OF THE SEA DRIVEN (or blown) WITH THE WIND AND TOSSED. FOR LET NOT THAT MAN THINK THAT HE SHALL RECEIVE ANY THING OF THE LORD-Ja 1:5-7. THE ANOINTING...ABIDETH (or remains) IN YOU...THE…ANOINTING TEACHETH YOU OF ALL THINGS-1 Jn 2:27. For THE HOLY GHOST...HE SHALL TEACH YOU ALL THINGS-Jn 14:26. The understanding of the Revelation comes from the Holy Ghost. It comes NOT IN THE WORDS WHICH MAN’S WISDOM TEACHETH, BUT WHICH THE HOLY GHOST TEACHETH; COMPARING SPIRITUAL THINGS WITH SPIRITUAL-1 Cor 2:13. Understanding is obtained by comparing the Word with the Word, by putting away preconceived ideas and false teachings and humbly seeking God with an attitude of, "Lord, I don’t know. Teach me."

THE FEAR OF THE LORD IS THE BEGINNING OF KNOWLEDGE-Pv 1:7. MY SON, IF THOU WILT RECEIVE MY WORDS, AND HIDE MY COMMANDMENTS WITH THEE; SO THAT THOU INCLINE THINE EAR UNTO WISDOM, AND APPLY THINE HEART TO UNDERSTANDING; YEA, IF THOU CRIEST AFTER KNOWLEDGE, AND LIFTEST UP THY VOICE FOR UNDERSTANDING; IF THOU SEEKEST HER AS SILVER, AND SEARCHEST FOR HER AS FOR HID TREASURES; THEN SHALT THOU UNDERSTAND THE FEAR OF THE LORD, AND FIND THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD-Pv 2:2-5.

HAPPY IS THE MAN THAT FINDETH WISDOM, AND THE MAN THAT GETTETH UNDERSTANDING. FOR THE MERCHANDISE OF IT IS BETTER THAN THE MERCHANDISE OF SILVER, AND THE GAIN THEREOF THAN FINE GOLD. SHE IS MORE PRECIOUS THAN RUBIES: AND ALL THE THINGS THOU CANST DESIRE ARE NOT TO BE COMPARED UNTO HER-Pv 3:13-15. WISDOM IS THE PRINCIPAL THING; THEREFORE GET WISDOM: AND WITH ALL THY GETTING GET UNDERSTANDING-Pv 4:7. MY SON, ATTEND UNTO MY WISDOM, AND BOW THINE EAR TO MY UNDERSTANDING-
Pv 5:1.

RECEIVE MY INSTRUCTION, AND NOT SILVER; AND KNOWLEDGE RATHER THAN CHOICE GOLD-Pv 8:10. HOW MUCH BETTER IS IT TO GET WISDOM THAN GOLD! AND TO GET UNDERSTANDING RATHER TO BE CHOSEN THAN SILVER!-Pv 16:16. FOR WISDOM IS BETTER THAN RUBIES; AND ALL THE THINGS THAT MAY BE DESIRED ARE NOT TO BE COMPARED TO IT-Pv 8:11. A SCORNER SEEKETH WISDOM, AND FINDETH IT NOT: BUT KNOWLEDGE IS EASY UNTO HIM THAT UNDERSTANDETH-Pv 14:6. THE FEAR OF THE LORD IS THE INSTRUCTION OF WISDOM; AND BEFORE HONOR IS HUMILITY-Pv 15:33. APPLY THINE HEART...AND THINE EARS TO THE WORDS OF KNOWLEDGE-Pv 23:12. THE FEAR OF THE LORD IS THE BEGINNING OF WISDOM: AND THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE HOLY IS UNDERSTANDING-Pv 9:10.

Do not come before God with an attitude of, "I already know." Humble yourself before God. Fear God. Be as a meek, little child ready to receive instruction from your heavenly Father. Always begin your study of God’s Word in prayer, asking Him to give you wisdom. Remember to ask in faith.

The Scriptures begin with man being separated from God because of sin; they end with the redeemed man being reunited with God for eternity.

GENERAL INFORMATION
1686-5A-1

The Revelation shows people on the earth, in heaven, many heavenly scenes, and those that perish to the lake of fire. It refers to the keys of hell and of death. There is the coming of the man of evil (the Antichrist), the dragon (which is Satan), and a false prophet. It depicts a great war and one-fourth of the world’s population killed. Two prophets of God are killed and later rise again. One-third of the world’s population is killed. Most of the events are centered around Israel. We see the saints in heaven, singing and great men hiding in the rocks of the mountains, terrified. A great battle is described, called the Battle of Armageddon. We see the second coming of Jesus Christ, Satan bound, the Antichrist and false prophet destroyed, and one thousand years of peace. Then Satan is released, a final rebellion occurs, and soon afterward Satan is cast into the lake of fire.

We see the heavens and earth pass away, the resurrection of the wicked, the great white throne judgment, and the books opened. People are cast into the lake of fire; a new heaven, a new earth, and a glorious city called New Jerusalem come forth.

There is a woman representing a city, a whore representing a religion, a beast representing a world leader, a dragon representing Satan, horns that appear to represent authority, eyes that seem to represent understanding, and white robes representing the righteousness of the saints. We see a crown portraying dominion, a number 666, and the number "seven" representing "completion" or "fullness."

The Revelation tells of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

It reveals Who Jesus is; how Jesus looks; what Jesus has; what Jesus did, does, and will do. It covers Who Jesus was, is, and shall be; also the events of Jesus’ life in the past, present, and future.

The Revelation refers to the past, the present, and the future.

It mentions people, kings, angels, elders, and beasts.

It deals with the Jews and Gentiles, the whole world, the world to come, and the New Jerusalem.

The Revelation covers ten days, ten thousand times ten thousand, ten horns, ten crowns, and ten kings.

It presents seven churches, seven Spirits, seven golden candlesticks, seven stars, seven lamps, seven seals, seven horns, seven eyes, seven trumpets, seven angels, seven thunders, and seven thousand men slain. There are seven heads, seven crowns, seven more angels, seven golden vials (or bowls, or plagues), seven mountains, and seven kings.

THOU HAST A FEW NAMES EVEN IN SARDIS WHICH HAVE NOT DEFILED THEIR GARMENTS; AND THEY SHALL WALK WITH ME IN WHITE: FOR THEY ARE WORTHY. HE THAT OVERCOMETH, THE SAME SHALL BE CLOTHED IN WHITE RAIMENT-Rev 3:4,5.

I COUNSEL THEE TO BUY OF ME GOLD TRIED IN THE FIRE, THAT THOU MAYEST BE RICH; AND WHITE RAIMENT, THAT THOU MAYEST BE CLOTHED, AND THAT THE SHAME OF THY NAKEDNESS DO NOT APPEAR; AND ANOINT THINE EYES WITH EYESALVE, THAT THOU MAYEST SEE-Rev 3:18.

AND ROUND ABOUT THE THRONE WERE FOUR AND TWENTY SEATS: AND UPON THE SEATS I SAW FOUR AND TWENTY ELDERS SITTING, CLOTHED IN WHITE RAIMENT-Rev 4:4.

AND WHITE ROBES WERE GIVEN UNTO EVERY ONE OF THEM; AND IT WAS SAID UNTO THEM, THAT THEY SHOULD REST YET FOR A LITTLE SEASON, UNTIL THEIR FELLOWSERVANTS ALSO AND THEIR BRETHREN, THAT SHOULD BE KILLED AS THEY WERE, SHOULD BE FULFILLED-Rev 6:11.

AFTER THIS I BEHELD, AND, LO, A GREAT MULTITUDE, WHICH NO MAN COULD NUMBER, OF ALL NATIONS, AND KINDREDS, AND PEOPLE, AND TONGUES, STOOD BEFORE THE THRONE, AND BEFORE THE LAMB, CLOTHED WITH WHITE ROBES, AND PALMS IN THEIR HANDS. AND ONE OF THE ELDERS ANSWERED, SAYING UNTO ME, WHAT ARE THESE WHICH ARE ARRAYED IN WHITE ROBES? AND WHENCE CAME THEY? AND I SAID UNTO HIM, SIR, THOU KNOWEST. AND HE SAID TO ME, THESE ARE THEY WHICH CAME OUT OF GREAT TRIBULATION, AND HAVE WASHED THEIR ROBES, AND MADE THEM WHITE IN THE BLOOD OF THE LAMB-Rev 7:9,13,14.

AND TO HER WAS GRANTED THAT SHE SHOULD BE ARRAYED IN FINE LINEN, CLEAN AND WHITE: FOR THE FINE LINEN IS THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF SAINTS-Rev 19:8.
